02/04/10Pros:
I've been quite pleased with the performance of my magicJack, which I purchased a little over a month ago.wonderful for me. Most of the time the calls that I've placed/received have been crystal clear, and that includes calls to Canada.
Cons:
The customer service is abysmal and available only via an online connection. Not good. In most locations, you're not able to acquire a telephone number for your location--your next door neighbor will have to pay long distance charges to call you.
Other Thoughts:
Despite all the negative reviews the I've read about magicJack, I believe that it's a God send to many people, myself included. I've only experienced being cut off one time. If my service continues perform well for another few months, I will drop my landline--I have a cell phone backup should my magicJack ever fail. I suspect that two keys to a successful experience with magicJack lie in having a relatively new computer and a good, high-speed internet service. I want this company to succeed, and I'm willing to endure a few bumps along the road to help it do so. I ended my cell service of 20 years with VerizonWireless in favor of the much less expensive, but equally reliable Stright Talk service. With magicJack, I have free 911 and 411 service, called ID, and many other bells and whistles. If and when they begin to offer good customer service and a local exchange for my area, I'll be tickled pink with the this service. Give it a try for yourself. Buy one of their units at a retail store. The most you have to lose is $40, but you'll be ahead by hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars, if it works well for you.
