Magic Jack - VoIP Reviews

Magic Jack is a new service that gives you a number, voicemail, call waiting, caller ID, etc. and a nifty little phone jack. Despite the name, the phone jack is not magical, but it gets close. It is a USB phone jack that plugs into a computer and then the person plugs a phone into the other end allowing them to make or recieve calls for free. All you have to do is buy the phone jack for $39.00.

Magic Jack Review: Mark

02/04/10

Pros:

I've been quite pleased with the performance of my magicJack, which I purchased a little over a month ago.wonderful for me. Most of the time the calls that I've placed/received have been crystal clear, and that includes calls to Canada.

Cons:

The customer service is abysmal and available only via an online connection. Not good. In most locations, you're not able to acquire a telephone number for your location--your next door neighbor will have to pay long distance charges to call you.

Other Thoughts:

Despite all the negative reviews the I've read about magicJack, I believe that it's a God send to many people, myself included. I've only experienced being cut off one time. If my service continues perform well for another few months, I will drop my landline--I have a cell phone backup should my magicJack ever fail. I suspect that two keys to a successful experience with magicJack lie in having a relatively new computer and a good, high-speed internet service. I want this company to succeed, and I'm willing to endure a few bumps along the road to help it do so. I ended my cell service of 20 years with VerizonWireless in favor of the much less expensive, but equally reliable Stright Talk service. With magicJack, I have free 911 and 411 service, called ID, and many other bells and whistles. If and when they begin to offer good customer service and a local exchange for my area, I'll be tickled pink with the this service. Give it a try for yourself. Buy one of their units at a retail store. The most you have to lose is $40, but you'll be ahead by hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars, if it works well for you.

Magic Jack Review: Car Kit

02/13/09

Pros:

None listed

Cons:

I purchased Magicjack on 3192008. Their advertisement stated that you wouldn't be billed until 30 days after recieving the Magicjack. However I was billed the first week, and it caused me to loose $180.00 for the price of the Magicjack, and overdraft fees from my bank. There is no phone contact, and the representatives totally disreguarded the fact that their advertisement is a joke. I never recieve a confirmation email, after the transaction, or one reguarding the fact that they made my bank accout a disaster. I would never recoment Magicjack to anyone.

Magic Jack Review: Jean

Pros:

Cons:

The only reason that I gave MJ a series of 1 ratings is because there was no 0! For weeks I tried to get this thing to work. I changed from dial-up to broadband to save $$$. I am on Social Security so saving $$ is important. Now I have a broadband bill and a phone bill because Magic Jack does not work!
